In short
This site uses no advertising, no cookies for tracking, no third-party scripts and no external fonts. We process only what is needed to deliver the pages, count visits anonymously, pick your language and answer your message.
Hosting and server logs
The site runs on servers operated by bytebrand.org. Requests pass through our own reverse proxy (Pangolin), which records IP address, time, requested address, status and browser identifier for operation and security. These request logs are deleted after 7 days. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (secure and reliable operation).
Visit statistics
We count visits with Umami, which we run ourselves (stats.app.bytebrand.cloud). It sets no cookies and stores no IP address: it records the page, referrer, browser type, device type and country, and recognises a repeat visit within one day only through a hash that changes daily. No profile is built and nothing is shared. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (knowing which pages are useful).
Language selection
To show you German or English, we first read your browser's language setting. If it names neither, we look up the country of your IP address in a database stored on our own server (DB-IP Lite, CC BY 4.0). No data leaves our server for this, and the result is not stored. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
If you switch the language yourself, we store your choice in the cookie “lang” for one year. It contains only “en” or “de” and is strictly necessary to remember the setting you asked for (§ 165(3) TKG 2021).
Contact form
When you send the form we process your name, email address and message to answer you. The message is sent through our own mail server to info@bytebrand.org (Microsoft 365, Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd., as processor) and kept as long as needed for your enquiry and any statutory retention obligations. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (pre-contractual enquiries) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Spam protection: your browser solves a small computational puzzle locally; no external service is involved. To limit abuse we keep your IP address together with the time of submission in memory for one hour, then discard it.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Write to info@bytebrand.org.
You may lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, www.dsb.gv.at).
